Chapter 1

A Normal Day Somewhat

_____________________________________

Faro Pyres ran down the cobblestone pathway of Phoenix Village as fast as he could rush to get back home. "Of all the days I had to be late," Faro thought as he hulled his satchel of supplies over his left shoulder that carried the steel for his father's next project. Faro's father was the local village black smith and because of recent demand in orders for weaponry, Faro was sent as the errand boy more or less now days. Slowing down to a walk Faro opened the wooden door to his home.  Hulling the heavy satchel of supplies to the back porch where he knew his dad would be working on his latest project a sword made completely of black obsidian with a steel blade, the name of the sword engraved on the blade "Shadow Firebird"

Leaning on the doorframe Faro ran his hand through his ginger hair and set the satchel down by his father's feet. "I apologize for being late father but I got the steel you wanted," he said casually walking over to see some of the other swords that his father had made previously. His favorite was the "Phoenix Restorer" a sword that was made out of both steel as well as some volcanic lava from the local volcano. The sword blade itself contained an elemental power core that was fueled by fire. In doing so when the sword came anywhere, near heat of any kind, it would glow a bright fiery crimson but the hilt actually remained cool to the touch.

Faro's father was by his workbench hammering down the steel that his son had brought. He finally addressed his son after he'd finished his task. "So Faro what distracted you this time?" Helios Pyres said as he raised and eyebrow knowing that Faro had been distracted yet again though with what or whom was any guess that Helios could not help but chuckle.

Faro just sheepishly put his hand behind his neck and shrugged "Nothing really just the usual wait" he said but mentally thought "and something else." Faro had been observing Ellen the shopkeepers beautiful daughter. Deciding not to tell his father as to what exactly kept his mind occupied Faro was about to go inside when his younger sister Marin came out to the back porch.

Marin unlike her brother had scarlet hair green eyes and yet although only thirteen summers old she was becoming already close to mastering swords. Picking up a sword from the workbench Marin touched the blade of the sword with the tips of her fingers and looked to her brother.

"Welcome back Faro" Marin said as she placed the sword back on the workbench and smiled at her older brother. "Anything new happen in town today?" Faro just chuckled and ruffled his little sisters red hair "Nothing new spitfire" he said addressing his sister by her nickname.  Marin just smiled a small smile and asked, "Want to go for a walk big brother?" she asked as she leaned on one of the wooden railings of her fathers smithy. Looking to his father who nodded in agreement Faro grinned took his little sisters hand and nodded towards his younger sibling. "Sure spitfire any time."

After having left their home Faro and Marin walked down the village cobblestone road. As the two siblings walked down the path, they were unaware of a pair of eyes following their every movement in the shadows.

Finally breaking the silence Marin looked to her brother and asked, "Did you see anything strange today Faro?" she said a worried look on her facial features. Faro just chuckled "Define strange." he said as he walked with his sister.

Shaking her head as if she thought it was ridiculous Marin just smiled and moved her hair out of her face "Its probably nothing Faro." looking over her shoulder as if to check if they were being followed.

"I think we should start heading back home brother something doesn't seem right." Faro just laughed and placed his arm around his sister's shoulder "Don't worry spitfire everything is..." Faro sentence was cut off as five dark cloaked figures appeared one by one out of the shadows.

"Well, well, well look what we got here men." The leader of the group addressed to his men and chuckled. "This might just be our lucky day after all." Faro looked to his sister and whispered "Spitfire you still have your daggers with you?" Marin just nodded with understanding. Growing up with Faro had taught Marin to always keep her guard up and by habit Marin near always had a weapon on her person to defend herself. As the two siblings turned to face their opponents, they stood back to back keeping their gaze locked on the dark hooded figures.
